Overview

A Design Leader recognized as an expert and advisor of User Experience (UX) delivery models and best practices. Responsible for initiating workshops that overlap multiple values streams to identify the way forward with unified design solutions. Contributes to the development of functional strategy to include oversight of a dedicated area of design focus and will serve as a SME for product reference and quality assurance across the team. Leads the facilitation of user-friendly designs that emphasize translating user processes into straightforward user interfaces (UI) and navigation flows. Is recognized as an expert and advisor within the organization and has in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines within the function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross functional team members through project deliverables in parallel to assigned projects and responsibilities
  • Provide user experience leadership and flawless delivery of projects and corresponding deliverables
  • Facilitate workshops and ideate to pool institutional knowledge to quickly solve for projects that cross over multiple value streams
  • Serve as the communication point person for HR initiatives that leverage UX resources
  • Raise awareness and educate teams on Design Thinking methodologies, UX standards, and best practices
  • Suggest research and testing methods and integrate with research team to obtain specific data and testing results for products UX is designing
  • Advocate for UX Integration across departments and initiatives
  • Influence discussions on process standards with the goal of driving departmental wide change with a well-defined, consistent process for all agile teams
  • Create industry leading experiences for our employees by advocating and promoting industry trends and solutions, and aligning them to business needs
  • Mentor agile team Experience Owners on UX Integration, writing product backlog items (PBIs) and influencing discussions on process standards with the goal of driving departmental wide change with a defined consistent process for all agile teams
  • Regularly contribute to, develop, and maintain design documentation
  • Analyze the user experience by evaluating the applications end-to-end, seeking out opportunities for improved experiences
  • Create and applies various user experience models such as journey maps, swim lane diagrams, empathy maps, use case scenarios, personas, etc.to guide the team
  • Create wireframes and prototypes based off requirements that meet business and user objectives
  • Work with business partners and market researchers, designers, and program managers to solve complex UX design problems and deliver results
  • Manage multiple projects under tight deadlines across a broad variety of product categories and audiences
  • Host a working group comprised of multiple UX team members to solve for design related challenges, identify areas of improvement or share design related information with the team
  • Partner with Management team to increase Employee Experience and UX maturity models at Navy Federal
  • Pursue opportunities to share UX driven solutions and processes and raise awareness and gain more visibility from other teams
  • Create a library of content that can be pulled and shared by others as needed
  • Identify forums and CoPs where UX can host and present a variety of educational information
  • Assist with procurement reviews, researching software, and identifying tools to help streamline product delivery
  • Mentor and transfer knowledge to Junior and mid-level team members
  • Provide career development guidance to cross functional staff and mentor junior designers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with web, mobile, and application design
  • Extensive experience of design fundamentals, such as color theory, typography, and composition
  • Extensive experience of interaction design, visual design, and industry standards
  • Extensive experience of user centered design processes and best practices
  • Knowledge with modern development standards, techniques, and methodologies (e.g., HTML, XHTML, AJAX, JavaScript, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience with ADA and familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and standards
  • Expert knowledge of best practices for web and mobile-based content, tools, and forms
  • Extensive experience interpreting requirements into executable design solutions
  • Expert sill in project management to include establishing and leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and mentor others
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate design concepts to a broad audience, including non-designers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor junior staff
  • Expert cross-group collaboration and persuasion skills
  • Expert design communication skills
  • Advanced detail and organizational skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, User-Centered Design/Human-Computer Interaction, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Graphic Design, User-Centered Design/Human-Computer Interaction, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal's functions, philosophy, operations, and organizational objectives
  • Human Factors Institute Certified Analyst
  • Nielson Norman UX Certification
